Students from this project attended a facilitation workshop in the Visual Theatre on the 4th December 2018 and the theme was Shelter. An artist had created a visual event using structures to depict what shelter could mean in different ways to different people. This event also utilised painting the walls of the theatre with symbols of culture and statements of what shelter meant.

After the initial introduction people were asked to participate in the workshop by joining a table and giving their own feedback of what shelter meant to them. Each table was asked to share with the group what they had written. Students, members of visual, volunteers, people from direct provision, lecturers and others made up the group participating. The workshop then involved answering questions which the facilitator had written onto sheets attached to each table. The idea was that each group would answer the question then move onto the next table and eventually finish at their original table. This was to gain input from everyone in the room. This workshop was particularly beneficial in gaining awareness of what people in direct provision in Ireland experience in their daily lives. It was in many ways a shock to people who were completely unaware of the reality these people are faced with. The facilitation bonded the group and knowledge was shared. From a student’s perspective these types of facilitation's should be standard in the educational system.
