Raise The Roof

Writer's picture: 2thehearth2thehearth

The National Homeless and Housing Coalition which consists of trade unions, politicians and campaign groups made headlines in October this year following the raise the roof rally many people from Carlow College including members of our team attended the march. There were thousands of students from all over Ireland in attendance and the chants of ‘student homes, not student loans’ could be heard all the way through the crowd marching

It was a very powerful feeling to be in attendance and the rally held at the end of the march really demonstrated that there is a hunger for real change. Flags from a myriad of different interest groups were held up over the heads of the crowd as the speakers gave impassioned and emotional speeches.

There was a mix of frustration and hope among the people after the event but it was heartening to see so many people and groups in attendance who are willing to push for change.
